Join me for a nice fall ride through Gunnison, Colorado to CO149. I talk a lot of nonsense. CO149 passes along the Blue Mesa Reservoir. The largest reservoir in Colorado by water storage capacity is the Blue Mesa Reservoir. Located in Gunnison County, it’s part of the Curecanti National Recreation Area and holds approximately 940,700 acre-feet of water when full. It stretches about 20 miles long, with a surface area of over 9,000 acres, making it a key feature of the Upper Colorado River Basin. It’s fed primarily by the Gunnison River and serves purposes like hydroelectric power, irrigation, and recreation.
